Greetings,
After a quick fall the 2008/2009 snowmobiling season is now fully underway. As you read on you will find that several revisions have been made to the TMA program. VAST members will still benefit from the multiple sled discount while owners of older sleds may save dollars using the “Antique” and “Classic” purchase options. This year the notion of “Resident” and “Non-Resident” will not apply for sleds older than 1994 when a “Classic” TMA is requested……..one price will apply. As well, the 5 Day pass will not distinguish between a Resident and Non-Resident. As of this writing the price has not been determined and the status of VAST provided insurance is an issue. All riders will benefit by completing their TMA purchase before the December 15th price increase.
Although the base prices for TMA(s) have not increased, the major change for the upcoming year is the addition, by VAST, of a $20 fuel surcharge to be applicable to each sled. The decision to impose this extra expense was made necessary due to the complete depletion of the VAST contingency fund last year. No one is happy about this but it does seem necessary in order to restore fiscal soundness to the organization and to help clubs buffer the effect of fluctuating fuel prices. The Stump Jumpers did receive extra funding last season to help with fuel costs so there was a real benefit to the local ridership. As well, we were paid the maximum allowed per our grooming contract. However the club did exceed our contracted for grooming mileage the cost of which we had to absorb locally.
In any case, the snow season is coming fast. We on the membership team guarantee to do the utmost to provide a problem free mail transaction should you choose to renew by mail. This year it is a must that we receive your renewal postmarked no later that December 15th. There can be no exceptions since the club is expected to close the “early bird” transactions by 12/26.
